The Flemington Farmers Market is Melbourne’s first farmers’ market to be established with Victorian Farmers’ Market Association accreditation - a guarantee that stallholders grow or make the goods they sell and that the quality of produce is of the utmost importance. There’ll be no craft stalls or jumping castles to distract from this seriously good food expedition but there will be plenty for kids to enjoy because farmers’ markets are a wonderful food adventure for all.
Unlike any other fresh food shopping experience, farmers’ markets bring a true slice of rural life to the city and provide the Melbourne community an opportunity to meet and directly support Victoria’s regional producers’.
Held in the grounds of Mount Alexander College at 175 Mt Alexander Road, Flemington, the market is easily accessible by major roads, public transport and bicycle, with ample parking and an amiable atmosphere. The market is enthusiastically supported by the school community. Alan Davies, the Principal writes” The association with the Flemington Farmers Market , the interest and appreciation of the school it is generating is incredibly valuable”.
The Flemington Farmers Market was established in 2010 as the Melbourne Showgrounds Farmers Market by the Victorian Farmers’ Market Association and the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria as an initiative of the two organisations to help ensure the good health of local agriculture and to provide a viable alternative for Melbourne’s population to buy fresh farm produce direct from the farmers and producers.
Dogs are most welcome to come and join us at the Flemington Farmers Market but they must be on a lead at ALL TIMES. Owners take full responsibility of their dogs during their visit and MUST ensure they behavior appropriately in public and please clean up after them should they mess in the grounds. We want the market to be visited by all including our four legged friends.
